Sam Jones is dead. The Hall-of-Famer, who won ten titles with the Boston Celtics, died at night to Thursday at the age of 88 years. This announced the club of National Dennis Schröder on New Year's Eve Day.
Jones was a key figure in the big Celtics years of the 1960s. He achieved an average of 17.7 points and 4.9 rebounds per game and earned the nickname Mr. Clutch for his heroics at the end of a game. Jones won his NBA titles with the Celtics from 1959 to 1966 and 1968 and 1969. Only his longtime teammate Bill Russell has triumphed with 11 NBA championships more frequently than Jones.
Sam Jones will be remembered as one of the most productive champions in complete professional sports, said NBA Commissioner Adam Silver. The Celtics wrote: The Jones family is our thoughts, while we mourn and remember the loss and remember his life and career as one of the biggest champions in American sports.
