In the course of an interview with Game Director Ion Hazzikostas, the topic of Cataclysm Classic came on the table a few days ago. The Blizzard developer admitted that many players keep the extension around death swingth for the beginning of the end of WoW. But what if Blizzard specifically tackled the errors and weaknesses of the expansion for a classic version? What would you have to adjust so that the WoW fans are in the goat on a Cataclysm Classic? In the last Classiccast ** Phil and I briefly talked about possible answers to these questions. In this article I would now like to go down more and make ION concrete suggestions, according to the motto: "Pimp my cataclysm!"
The features of WoW: Cataclysm
In order to be able to change areas of Cataclysm, we first have to remember what actually came to Azeroth with the third wow extension. When the death of death broke out of the ground on December 7, 2010 and the face of Azeroth forever changed, many players were looking forward to the following innovations:
- Extensive revision of the classic zones with newly designed quests and stories
- New areas: Vashj'ir, Hyjal, Tiefenheim, Uldum and Shadow Highland
- New peoples: Goblins and Worgen
- New dungeon and raid challenges (total: 14 dungeons and 6 raid instances)
- The profession of archeology
-
Fixed choice of the talent tree with the associated championship
-
The merging feature
- The PvP zone Tol Barad
- New guild system
- The PvP battlefields twin summit and battle for Gilneas
- a valued mode for PvP battlefields
- Raising the maximum level from level 80 to 85
- Big class adjustments (for example that Jäger now use focus instead of mana, or that witch champions and paladins each receive a new resource (soul splinters and sacred strength))
With later updates, new Daily areas, the transmission system, empty camp, slaughterhouse browser, guild challenges and the dark moon island came into play with later updates. And the developers made two 5-player dungeons out of the RAID instances.
lots of light and shadow in Cataclysm
So that you can classify why I would change certain things to Cataclysm and others, I should first explain to you what I actually liked at Cataclysm and what not. You may already know some of my 10 nostalgic memories of Wow: Cataclysm .
revised world versus new endgame
With Cataclysm, the Blizzard developers have had an enormous effort to have Azeroth shone in the new light. And not only visually, but also playful. In fact, some of the quest series that came into play at the time are the best that you can still play in WoW today.
For many years, however, hardly anyone had this. On the one hand, because Blizzard never managed to make old zones attractive for high -level heroes. On the other hand, twinks grow out of every zone thanks to heirs, dungeon visits and collecting professions. And at the latest when all quests are only gray, so there is no more experience, for many the change of the area is on the program.
So you could say that the developers had operated part of the effort for free at the time. At the same time, it inevitably affects the endgame if you put so much time and developer resources in the complete revision of the level phase. The world was actually still okay directly to the release, which also the enthusiastic opinion boxes by David and Susanne occupy from our test . It became problematic for the following patches for Cataclysm.
