Krafton, Inc., known for the global success title PubG: Battlegrounds and the upcoming AAA title The Callisto Protocol, today announces its decision to take over Unknown Worlds, the maker of Subnautica.
This recent decision continues the expansion strategy of Krafton. It aims to invest in high-profile talents that evolve, show innovation and want to create new experiences. Unknown Worlds will be the sixth independent studio of Krafton and thus involves a group of experienced developers like Pubg Studios, Striking Distance Studios, Bluehole Studio, Risingwings and Dreamotion.
Unknown Worlds will bring a great risk of experience in the development of community-driven gaming experiences at KRONSON. The studio founded in 2001 by Charlie Cleveland and Max McGuire developed the popular Half-Life-Mod Natural Selection, which later received a commercial sequel.
While maintaining its roots-oriented roots, the studio published the official launch of critics-celebrated and commercially successful PC and console games Subnautica and Subnautica: Below Zero in the Early Access. Unknown Worlds has shown that it creates exciting experiences that are appealing to players around the world. The most recent acquisition plan helps KRONTON to expand its IP and expand the company s portfolio of groundbreaking games.
Unknown Worlds are incredibly capable and passionate developers with an incomparable creative talent and a proven success story in the construction of player-controlled worlds, says Kim, CEO of Krafton, Inc. KRONSON will not shy any effort to support them. Not only enrich our development capacities, but we also share the goal of creating unique experiences for a global audience.
It was clearly clear how very unknown Worlds and Krafton Inc. is similar in the way we think about games and game development. Subnautica and PubG have both started small and developed successfully through constant iteration and feedback, says Charlie Cleveland, CEO of Unknown Worlds. We want to bring new games to the international stage - and with Krafton we came closer to a big step closer. We are very happy about our common future.
Unknown Worlds will continue to act as an independent gaming developer studio, which is fully owned by Krafton, Inc. and will work worldwide as well as working with talents from around the world. The structure and management of Unknown Worlds is maintained to safeguard the unique creative identity. In addition to further updates for subnautica and subnautica: Below Zero is currently working on a new genre-defining game, which is expected to go 2022 in the Early Access.
Area & Co. acted as an exclusive financial adviser from Unknown Worlds throughout the negotiation, along with Fenwick & West, who occurred as legal advisers. Kirkland & Ellis LLP and Kim & Chang represented Krafton as a legal advisor.
