Battlefield 2042 has everything for a really good battlefield, but is technically a catastrophe

Electronic Arts Inc. (EA) is an American computer game firm headquartered in Redwood City, California. It is the second-largest gaming company in the Americas and also Europe by revenue and also market capitalization after Activision Blizzard as well as in advance of Take-Two Interactive, and also Ubisoft since May 2020. Established and also incorporated on May 27, 1982, by Apple worker Journey Hawkins, the firm was a pioneer of the early personal computer video game market and advertised the designers as well as programmers in charge of its games as software program musicians. EA released many games and also some software for desktop computers, all of which were created by exterior people or teams till 1987 s Skate or Die!. The company moved toward inner video game studios, frequently with acquisitions, such as Distinct Software program becoming EA Canada in 1991. Currently, EA creates and also publishes video games of well-known franchises, consisting of Battlefield, Need for Speed, The Sims, Medal of Honor, Command & Conquer, Dead Space, Mass Impact, Dragon Age, Military of 2, Titan fall, and Celebrity Wars, along with the EA Sports titles FIFA, Madden NFL, NBA Live, NHL, and also EA Sporting Activities UFC. Their desktop titles show up on self-developed Beginning, an on the internet video gaming electronic distribution platform for Computers and a straight rival to Valve s Steam and Epic Gaming Shop. EA also possesses as well as runs significant PC gaming workshops such as EA Turn in Orlando, EA Vancouver in Burnaby, EA Romania in Bucharest, DICE in Stockholm and Los Angeles, BioWare in Edmonton and also Austin, and also Respawn Entertainment in Los Angeles and Vancouver.

On a large player event of Publisher Electronic Arts, developer DICE and Ripple Effect, Meinmmo-author Tarek Bearer finally made a closer picture of Battlefield 2042. That is quite a lot of columns.

What exactly could we play? I have allowed playing together with colleagues of Gamester, Game pro and Games welt in Squad. At the event we were able to test the early access version of Battlefield 2042, which is also available from tomorrow, 12 November for some players.

We were able to take a look at all modes of the shooter:

All-out warfare with breakthrough and conquest. The new Hazard Zone mode reminds of Escape from Markov and Hunt: Showdown. Finally we could also try Battlefield Portal and some Classic Maps.

Overall, we were able to spend around 10 hours in multiplayer, of which about 4 hours in All-out Warfare, 2 in Hazard Zone and again 4 hours in portal mode.

The game was played on the PC. Here you will learn what my impressions are to Battlefield 2042 and why I still worried.

I give you quickly and compact my impressions again. If you are looking for more accurate information about the modes, you can watch our overview.

Who writes here? Tarek Bearer is a freelance author for Mango, since Bad Company 2 fan of the Battlefield series and has invested several hundred hours in the series.

Apart from that, he has experience with numerous multiplayer shooters. Big maps, material battles and team play are his thing. That s why he is in Battlefield usually as a paramedic, or he mimics the jerk, which turns your tanks on foot to repair them.

Info for hardware: was played on a PC with NVIDIA GTX 1650 with 4 GB VRAM, AMD Ryzen 5 3600 processor with 6 cores and with 16 GB of memory.

Classic Battlefield moments and have fun in all-out warfare

Our first session turned around all-out warfare and was thus the classic battlefield experience on the new maps. We were allowed to try the 7 new cards like hourglass or kaleidoscope.

After only little acclimatization, it was directly in the middle of the battle, just breakthrough was unchecked, and we were allowed to start directly in the attack team. With We I mean the colleagues Dimitri Halley (Gamester), Annika Cavendish (Gamer) and Sasha Göddenhoff (Games welt).

As a solid squad, we were allowed to play most of the different modes together and the war should work together quickly. Even the frustration about technical problems should contribute to its part, but later more.

In any case, our first session in breakthrough has made a lot of fun, and we had glorious moments in which we stormed the opposing defense point, for example, with a mini-tank, while two of us had to take space on the roof. These are these disclosed moments for which I love Battlefield.

Also, conquest made fun, and it was interesting to meet the new maps and find out which spots are critical and where it comes to most, bitter struggles.

Unfortunately, I could not make a comprehensive opinion about the maps, but simply not enough time. Surely I can say: They look damn good and everyone is unique. I noticed negatively to me the many wide and empty surfaces on which there are as good as no cover.

In some places, it was thus defenseless against enemy snipers. This concerns especially cards like orbital, hourglass or new beginning. How hard it weighs, but I can not say yet.

Hazard zone is interesting, but has balance problems

If your Hazard zone does not know yet, here is a brief summary: The mode is a modification of the Battle Royale principle and mixes EVE with PVP.

You will discontinue on a map on which your meets both human opponents, and I enemies. The goal is to collect and output disks. That turns credits that you can buy weapons and tactical upgrades for the next round. Do you die, you lose almost everything? Do not you have credits and can not buy anything, you start with standard equipment in the game. If you make an extraction, you will receive the purchase price for purchased items. There are also streaks and other elements that developers call it the meta-game of Hazard Zone.

While I do not find the idea of Hazard Zone bad and believe that the mode of variety should bring to the usual Battlefield modes, I also have a few worries.

So my impression is after a few rounds that weapons are quite expensive. So if you have difficulties at the beginning and do not create extractions, you usually stay on the standard equipment, especially since there is no loot in the form of equipment, as you know that from Hazard Zone knows.

This could quickly lead that good players are permanently equipped better, while players with not so high skill levels stay.

It may be a conscious decision of the developer, but probably leads to players quickly for loss of motivation. The standard weapon is strong in most situations without any visor.

The spawn points at the beginning of a game are sometimes suboptimal. Often we were deposed on open surfaces, so that we came directly into the sight of snipers. Despite the criticisms I had fun and with a few adjustments could also motivate the mode longer.

Personally, I see him more like a nice drive, because only for Hazard Zone I would not buy Battlefield 2042 with certainty. There is simply too good competition.

Battlefield 2042 - Everything To Know

So Hazard Zone feels a bit like a foreign body, decoupled from the classic Battlefield experience. Except for a jeep, there are neither driving nor aircraft, thereby lacking typical elements. Thanks to all-out warfare and portal, this is not a problem either. Especially the portal mode is again possibly the Big Deal for the shooter.

Battlefield Portal brings Custom Mode and gives you many freedoms

Portal was the most interesting mode from the beginning. Because this is not just a mode, but also a toolbox for players who want to create their own battlefield modes.

On top of that, portal brings content from earlier offshoots of the series:

Battlefield 1942 Battlefield Bad Company 2 Battlefield 3

Content include 6 MAP classics, several weapons, all classes and driving and aircraft are included. A huge package so, which will bring a lot of fun in its standard version. With the editor, hospitals also have some ways to create their own battlefield experience.

We were allowed to take a look at the editor, but do not try any modes created by us yet. But that is understandable, since the chaos were preprogrammed. To start we play a mode in which two teams hit each other. Each team got a VIP that has been permanently displayed to the enemy.

The goal was to turn off this VIP. That was quite entertaining, but the classes were not selectable, and the spawn points were completely random, which was permanently shocked anywhere.

But that was still nothing, because the developers gave us two for Battlefield rather untypical modes to try out.

Free-for-all + missiles = absolute chaos

At first there was a free-for-all, where players were able to compete in a limited part of a map in a classic all-against-all. The chaos went from the first second to go when dozens of players started at the same time.

Partially spawn players side by side, there were reports of three players at once, looking right before the nose of a colleague, and he just had to refresh them.

In the next round, the whole thing was driven to the top: all-against-all 2.0 called them that. The Glorious idea: Each player gets a rocket launcher with just one shot in the hand. Who wanted to have ammunition again, had to jump 5 times. Thus, the map was full of hopping, with rocket launcher for turning crazy, or with people who simply unpacked the knife and went in close combat.

That s absurd and is fun for a while, for me, was more of a wasted chance to show the possibilities of portal mode. For apart from the FFA modes, there were no further custom modes to test.

In this respect, Portal convinced the presentation, the presentation has left me and my squad unfortunately rather frustrated. At least there was a good old round Rush with Bad-Company-2 classes and conquest with the classes and cards from Battlefield 3.

Map remakes are absolutely successful

During the start with the homemade modes in portal at first glance, little convinced, the classical round was full of compensation with me. Bad Company 2 was my first Battlefield and Maps Arica Harbor and Valparaiso looked absolutely fantastic.

Everything is here, and even the destruction is at the level of that time. Although the team balance was very unbalanced at the event and our team was mercilessly overrun, it was a cool feeling of being on two of my favorite cards again. The round conquest on Caspian Border and Nosher Canals brought back several memories of Battlefield 3 and I liked it very much.

Finally, I can say to Portal: For me, the mode has the greatest potential. I can not wait to make it, which players are crafting with the editor and alone the standard moderate scope is enough to deal with hours. Pure nostalgia. Overall, I had a lot of fun on the event, but now the big one.

If it was after me, Battlefield 2042 is likely to move 6 months

While I have no big criticism at the gameplay and scope (for that, it was simply too little time), there is still a lot to complain about a technical side.

I can call at least a positive aspect: There are less game breaking bugs and glitches in the game as in the Open Beta. After all, this is something, because there it was temporarily unplayable for me.

Surprisingly, a new problem has occurred with me: while the performance in the Open Beta was not a problem at all, it is partly very questionable in the Early Access version for me.

Yes, my GPU is certainly not a high-end graphics card. Nevertheless, it corresponds to the system requirements of Battlefield 2042 and as I said: In the Open Beta I had little performance problems, rarely did my FPS be under 60. In addition, I was not the only one affected. Even participants of the events with significantly stronger hardware complained of similar problems.

In the early access version, I had considerable burglaries with the FPs depending on the MAP. On the map it was as bad, that the FPS partially sipped from 60 to 15 and in the area there were permanent fluctuations. The problem occurred especially in conquest mode, but drew in different strength but through all modes.

It was noticeable: Above all, it depends on the card how strong the performance was impaired and weather effects like Tornados had a significant impact on it.

There are also problems with the physics of the game. Vehicle scammer fly partly strangely through the area, collisions seem to overrate the game. Play players simply ran in the air, could shoot one by walls and so on. Especially annoying for people like me, which are mostly traveling as paramedics: players too close to a wall, they just could not revive them. Often enough, my squad and even my life tasted, when I stupid on a wall, while I repeatedly try to revive someone.

In addition to the heavy performance problems, the many other problems grew into a big heap of difficulties that still has the game. The most serious one has possibly repaired, but I do not see a round release yet.

Also, from other participants of events reported problems of a variety of ways they had with technology.

Conclusion: Battlefield 2042 has the stuff to become a perfect battlefield. Especially with portal and all-out warfare the basic ingredients already exist. How Hazard Zone fits into the whole thing remains to be seen. More than a bonus is currently not for me.

The biggest obstacle is currently clear the technique for me and here I am curious how the official release will run on 19 November. Stand now I m a hard start for Battlefield 2042, especially in the Early Access version we could play.

Therefore, I could not give a recommendation for the start of the technical point of view.

Here again mentioned: All this is based on 10 hours of playtime. For a final conclusion, it is still too early. Questions about the balance, map design and other aspects can only be fully assessed with the release and significantly more time.

When does the Early Access phase actually start? On the 12th of November, participants can already start in the game. The Preload has been running since 10th November.

Who can participate? Pre-ordering of the Gold and Ultimate Edition receive access to the Early Access. Anyone who is also subscribing to the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate or has an EA pro subscription also gets earlier access. The actual release is then on November 19th.

Battlefield 2042 will start soon in the Early Access — which specialists will you play?
