As Sega announced the new offshoot of the Sonic series in May of this year, the name Sonic Rangers was used in an outdated version of the press release. This title covered with some 4chan leaks, according to which the new Sonic game should offer an open world with the well-known Ubisoft towers.

Sonic Frontiers should have open game world
About a month ago, a new 4chan leak came to light. According to this, the name of the game was changed in Sonic Frontiers. The game should continue to offer an open world, similar to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
As Gets reported, Sega has registered a Trademark for Sonic Frontiers on 22 October. Since there is currently no more well-known Sonic title in work, Frontiers could be the final name for the new offshoot. Even an open world is becoming more and more likely for the new game.
According to the Sonic Team Head Takashi Izuku, the new offshoot should provide a new basis for the series, as this Sonic Adventure did in 1998. A completely open game world would at least be something new for the Sonic Universe. (Presumably) Sonic Frontiers should appear in 2022 sometime.
