Review of 2021 MX GP
What makes the bike race so different from racing, it is the depth of the connection between the rider and the vehicle. In auto racing, the relationship is a relationship of empathy where the driver feels that the car feels. In motorcycle racing, the relationship driver / motorcycle is one of symbiosis. Not only the driver feel what the bike, but the bike reacts to what the rider does with his body. The way the rider leans or shifts his weight has a direct impact on how the bike is. The best comparison would be that between a rider and a horse.
As to ride
This symbiotic relationship makes the bike so attractive proxy. This also makes the motorcycle racing simulation that difficult. The feedback mechanism between the player and the game is just not there. Simulating a race, a car made a big leap forward when the wheel Force-Feed Back (FFB) became available. Other steps such as kicks to simulate track conditions or full hydraulic simulation platforms grow the illusion even further.
The motorcycle simulations have not had access to a similar FFB mechanism accessible to consumers. This changed in 2020 with the SP5 and the introduction of the Dual Sense. I have experienced for the first time with another bike game Milestone — MotoGP 21. With adaptive triggers, players can feel the acceleration and braking they apply. This is vital because this level of control allows you to better make your way on a track. The use of haptic feedback was less impressive. MotoGP takes place on paved tracks and play only limited use of haptics to a roar when crossing sidewalks or runway excursions. MX GP 2021 — the use of haptics is even less used because this race is done on dirt tracks. Running in the earth and mud obviously leads to softer and less defined sensations. Unfortunately for the MX GP it means choking comments between a player and his bike.
Digging in the dirt
I felt back when I was leaving the track, or I bumped into bumps and / or landings after jumps. There is no proper sense of slipping in the sand or slipping in the mud. The game tries to involve mainly by sound, whether the engine sticking tires. Maybe Dual Sense of the haptic is not capable of intricate details, but I bet he is capable of more. The MX GP 2021 has big shoes to fill for hardened bikers. This is the officially licensed for motocross racing. As for licensing, the game has its bases covered. Includes all tracks, bikes and official drivers.
There is a new career mode that focuses on your reputation. You can choose to ride for an official team or create a custom. Whichever route you choose, you will have to deal with sponsors and contracts to best support your advancement.
You can choose from several modes of play. Quick mode offers races against the clock, or the Grand Prix championship. Another option is the Playground. Here you can make off-track roaming or visit several waypoints. Each Waypoint offers a different challenge. There Enduro giving two obstacle courses. There is also a course and jump against the clock.
The game also features a track editor where you can design and share tracks with other players. You can choose between four settings: apple orchard, plain wood or career. The interface for this is quite smooth. You drag and drop forms of track on the ground that reconfigures to fit each new piece. In addition to the course layout, you can designate the location of the lines start / finish, add field elements such as jumps and ditches and add buildings.
MX GP gives another standard part of this type of game customization. You can customize bikes and cycling outfits: helmets, goggles, overalls, boots. This includes not only the change of colors and numbers, but also sponsor logos.
In terms of presentation on PS5, the menus are clear and lively. The loading times are fast as expected on the PS5, but for those who play on a PS4, expect atrocious track loading sequences of a minute. Graphically, the game looks realistic. Compared to the 2020 version of the game, they definitely attenuated the vivacity of the colors. The best version is a subjective choice. I prefer the look of version 2021.
Sound side, the game has a good sound scene. Bicycle engines grow and moan depending on when you speed up or bike searches for traction. The latter is an important index used to know when slowing or not. He also emphasizes the lack of haptic return during such moments, because the Dual Sense remains in sleep between your hands during such moments.
MX GP 2020 or 2021?
Bring this back to the heart of the game — Physics. It's definitely a mixed bag. Adaptive triggers are excellent. The haptic return does not so much. The physics of the track is also incoherent. The main track modeling that occurs in turns with the central lines of the central line, that is to say from the accumulated land. You will definitely feel a jerk through them. However, you never feel the twist and the sliding of the wheels when they make their way in the earth. Jump landings, however, provide a welcome controller jerk.
MX GP 21 is a hard game to see again. Rolling on earth tracks is a much harder thing to simulate than doing it on paved tracks. However, one can not judge a game only by the pleasure it gives. For my part, I was often more frustrated than exalted. Although the game includes a multitude of options to make the MX GP 21 accessible to all, it is a kind of niche stroke that will appeal mainly to dedicated fans. The other big shot on this game is that the changes compared to version 2020 are only progressive.
